HOLLYWOOD, CA A watershed moment came about in the conference room at a Kaiser Permanente hospital Monday afternoon, as several nurses received their initial doses of Pfizer s coronavirus vaccine. Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Eric Garcetti and more looked on as nurse Helen Cordova joked around with the crowd before taking the vaccine shot in her upper right arm.
Kaiser Permanente was among the first hospitals in California to receive their vaccine doses. LOS ANGELES (CNS) More Southland health care workers are expected to get vaccinated against the coronavirus Wednesday, as the region s hospitals continue receiving shipments of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
By the end of Wednesday, all nine sites in the county equipped with the ultra-cold-storage facilities needed for the Pfizer medication are expected to have the vaccine. The doses will then be farmed out to 83 acute-care hospitals countywide for administration to health care workers, who are at the top of the priority list.

They were the shots heard ‘round the state. Five healthcare workers in Los Angeles became the first in the area Monday to receive the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech outside of a clinical trial. In San Francisco, Dr. Anthony Gomez, medical director of critical care at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and Phung Ngyuen, a registered nurse in intensive care there, were the first in their city to roll up their sleeves for a jab.

More large Los Angeles County hospitals started receiving shipments of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine today, one day after initial doses were administered at a Kaiser Permanente facility in Hollywood.
Vaccinations are due to arrive Tuesday and Wednesday at the rest of the nine sites in the county equipped with the ultra-cold-storage facilities needed for the Pfizer medication. The vaccines will then be farmed out to 83 acute-care hospitals countywide for administration to health care workers, who are at the top of the priority list to receive the initial doses.
The vaccine, which received federal approval over the weekend for immediate use, is said to be 95% effective at preventing the virus.
