County scrambles to reverse lagging vaccine rates before June 15 reopening

With businesses preparing to ditch the mask and open at full capacity on June 15, public health officials are hustling to get as many shots into arms as possible before then.
Covid-19 rates have dramatically dropped over the past few months, but in the past few weeks unfortunately so have vaccination rates. While the County was administering over 450,000 doses a week at the beginning of April, weekly doses have now dropped to around 100,000.

On Saturday, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 14 new deaths resulting from Covid-19, and 265 new positive cases. While the number of hospitalizations continues to decrease across the County as vaccines are doled out, the number of deaths and confirmed cases reported may reflect delays in weekend reporting. LOS ANGELES, CA Six months into the vaccination effort, Los Angeles County has recorded nearly 1,000 breakthrough cases in which fully vaccinated people went on to test positive for the coronavirus. Of those breakthrough cases, 71 were hospitalized and 12 died.
With more than 3.3 million Angelenos fully vaccinated, 933 breakthrough cases translates to an infection rate of .03 percent, and the county s COVID-19 death rate among the fully vaccinated is 0.00036%., said Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer. The numbers show that coronavirus vaccines are proving to be extremely effective, she said.
