Newark and Sherwood District Council leader David Lloyd and director of Public Health for Notts, Jonathan Gribbin, urge residents to book a coronavirus test at Castle House Carpark if they have symptoms

In a joint message published today, the leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council and the director of Public Health for Nottinghamshire are urging people with coronavirus symptoms to get a test as soon as possible.
Symptoms are any of the following:
A high temperature

In their statement, district council leader David Lloyd and director of Public health Jonathan Gribbin said: âIt is really important that people in Newark and Sherwood with coronavirus symptoms - which are any of: a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste - get a test as soon as possible.
Tier 3 remains in place for Newark and Sherwood and Nottinghamshire county

The government has decided that the whole of Nottinghamshire will remain in Tier 3 as very high alert restrictions remain throughout December.
Rates of infection, their trajectory and pressures on the local health and social care system were all factors considered in making the decision.

The local tier levels are part of the governmentâs Winter Plan, a strategy to save lives, protect health and care services, and keep our economy and schools open.
Jonathan Gribbin, Director of Public Health for Nottinghamshire said: âWe recognise the sacrifices Nottinghamshire residents have made throughout a very difficult year to help drive down the rate of infection across the county and I appreciate that the continuation of Tier 3 measures will be a disappointment to many who were hoping for an easing

A decision is now expected on Thursday, December 17, on which coronavirus tier Nottinghamshire will be for the next few weeks.
Alex Norris, MP for Nottingham North, said: “We expect the decision to be made today but that we won’t be formally told until tomorrow. Nottingham businesses need maximum time to prepare so the government should tell us as soon as they know.”
According to the PA news agency a formal announcement (is) expected tomorrow .
Last week, local council leaders were called into a Government meeting to review the current regional figures.
