Record number of seal pups born at Donna Nook in 2020 And they’ve now returned to the sea A record number of over 2,000 grey seal pups were born at Donna Nook in 2020. The first pup of the season arrived at around 3pm on October 22 last year, with the last being born on December 22. The colony of grey seals at Donna Nook has been increasing year on year and this trend has continued, but people were unable to watch the births as normal as the viewing area had to be closed during the seal pupping season due to coronavirus restrictions. In 2019, 2,186 baby seals were born and this was beaten by a new record total of 2,214 in 2020.

Sunderland residents urged to have a say on city s police

Sunderland City Council TIME is running out for residents to give their views on strengthening city-wide enforcement powers on a range of anti-social behaviour issues. Residents of Sunderland have until Tuesday, January 12 to add to online consultation and give their views on policing. Sunderland City Council is looking to bolster the powers it currently has available to it in response to residents calls for more enforcement action, which was one of the key things to come out of the City Council s Let s Talk consultation. Under the Public Spaces Protection Order introduced in 2019, the City Council already has the power to give advice, formal warnings, or issue a £75 fixed penalty notice to anyone breaking the current rules around alcohol control, dog control, the use of legal highs in public places and anti-social behaviour linked to street trading.
