I m fed up - SAA, rescue practitioners blasted by parliamentary accounts committee

We will get state-owned entities back into shape eventually, insists DPE

File Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises Phumulo Masualle has told Parliament that his department was working on improving the fortunes of SA s beleaguered SOEs. Masualle was replying orally to questions from members of Parliament during a virtual plenary of the National Council of Provinces.  Many are questioning the progress and commitment of government towards fixing SOEs.  Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises Phumulo Masualle told Parliament on Tuesday afternoon that despite ongoing troubles at state-owned entities (SOEs) and delays in already announced plans to get them back in shape, the department still had a plan to improve the fortunes of beleaguered parastatals.

Still ahead: A long and winding road for Busisiwe Mkhwe

In parliamentary practice and politics, there’s a world of difference between “considering” and “noting”. “Considering” means saying either yes or no, or proposing a third way. “Noting” means nothing happens thereafter. Maybe that seems pedantic, but the use of language in the national legislatures is central to lawmaking – and can be an instrument in politicking. At Thursday’s programming committee meeting, ANC Chief Whip Pemmy Majodina proposed that the House “note” an independent panel’s recommendation of misconduct and incompetence impeachment proceedings against Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane. The panel’s report, released on Monday, states sufficient information was found to sustain prima facie evidence of misconduct and incompetence.
