Darron Cummings / Associated Press Ahead of a candelight vigil on Saturday, civil rights attorney Ben Crump held a snowy press conference with the family of Andre Hill outside the Brentnell Recreation Center in east Columbus. “Put your fist in the sky,” Crump led the crowd in chanting. “Get em up, raise em high.” Columbus Police officer Adam Coy fatally shot Hill during a non-emergency call early December 22, while neglecting to activate his body camera and administer first aid. Coy faces the possibility of being fired as soon as Monday, when he s scheduled for a disciplinary hearing with the city Public Safety Director.

Community gathers as investigation into Andre Hill s death continues Hill was shot after Officer Adam Coy and another officer, a woman who has not yet been identified, responded to a non-emergency disturbance call about a running vehicle outside a home on the 1000 block of Oberlin Drive. The officers arrived around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday and within about 10 seconds after first encountering 47-year-old Hill, Coy fired multiple shots.  After the shooting, Coy and other responding officers did not render any aid to Hill for several minutes, according to body camera video. Hill, who was not armed, was later pronounced dead at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.
