Merritt RCMP provide weekly update | Merritt Herald

The Merritt RCMP have provided the Herald with an update on what has been keeping their officers busy over the past week. On April 13, 2021, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada approved charges of Unlawfully Cultivate, Propagate or Harvest Cannabis in a Dwelling House and Unlawfully Possess Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling against Mr. Sebastian Csuka, Mr. Valerian Lukaj, Mr. Jakin Gjuraj, and Mr. Zef Leka. On November 19, 2020, the Merritt RCMP executed a Cannabis Act search warrant a residence in the 9000-block of Highway 97C. An unlicensed, sophisticated cannabis grow operation was located that was estimated of being capable of producing approximately 1.5 million joints a year and represents 51,845 purchases of 30 grams from a legal cannabis store.

Charges withdrawn against Thunder Bay lawyer

Thunder Bay Courthouse (Matt Vis, tbnewswatch.com) THUNDER BAY A Thunder Bay lawyer and federal crown prosecutor had his charges withdrawn as a result of a peace bond last week in a Thunder Bay virtual courtroom. The two charges against Ronald Poirier, 72, one count of forcible confinement and assault were laid by Thunder Bay Police which stemmed from an Aug. 28, 2020 incident. Both counts were withdrawn in favour of a 12-month peace bond, court documents show. His conditions include keeping the peace toward one named complainant.  According to crown prosecutor Kenrick Abbott, Poirier was arrested following a physical dispute between himself and the complainant.
