Govt approves all-male ZTBL board
Move violates law that calls for women representation in every public interest firm

The federal government has approved an all-male board of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), violating an Act of parliament that binds it to ensure women representation in every public interest company.
The decision is also against the government’s policy of economic and social empowerment of women, which President Arif Alvi reiterated on Wednesday.
But a day earlier, the federal cabinet approved a nine-member board, including two ex-officio members, for ZTBL. It approved the appointment of Nadeem Lodhi as the chairman of ZTBL board of directors.

ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court (AC), Islamabad on Monday deferred indictment of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and others in an illegal advertisement contract case.
During the hearing the counsels of two accused submitted exemption from personal appearance to the court, while two remained absent. The court has also rejected the acquittal pleas of co-accused in the case and adjourned the hearing till January 12. In the previous hearing on November 27, the court had rejected the acquittal pleas of co-accused namely, Saleem Farooq, Syed Hassan and Riyaz in the case.
The AC judge had directed former PM Yusuf Raza Gilani and other co-accused to appear before the court on the next hearing of the reference on December 21 for indictment. Initial Testing of Govt Servant Candidates Will Soon Be Assigned to FPSC
The Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat met under the Chairpersonship of MNA Kishwer Zehra.
The Committee adopted the report of the sub-committee of the Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, appointed under convener-ship of MNA Rana Iradat Sharif Khan regarding the leaking of the paper of National Testing Service (NTS) Exam in District Lower Dir.
The Committee ordered for sending the recommendations to the relevant departments for implementation.
Apprising the Committee regarding the finding of the sub-committee, the convener informed that after thorough deliberation and discussion on the issue referred to the Committee, it is recommended that the initial testing of the candidates aspirant to become government servants should be assigned to Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), subject to the strengthening of the Commission with required human resource and financial resources.
