Human rights organizations welcomed President Joe Biden s executive order Thursday significantly raising the cap on the number of refugees allowed into the country. It s going to take time to rebuild what has been so badly damaged, but that s precisely what we re going to do, Biden said Thursday.
Former President Donald Trump whose administration was marked by xenophobic policies set the ceiling for refugee admissions at a record low 15,000, a move that elicited fierce criticism from rights groups.
Biden announced his intention to raise the cap to 125,000, called for the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) to be rebuilt and expanded, revoked Trump s orders blocking refugee resettlement, and directed federal agencies to look into climate-related impacts on refugees and displacement.

The denial form justifies the impoundment by saying page 2 of the issue could “create a danger within the context of the correctional facility.” But the only article on page 2 is “Workers in Scotland Speak Out Against Economic, Health Crisis.”
The form also says, “Brief Description: Socialist Workers Party Action, speaks on social unrest and standing against law enforcement.” Prison authorities are likely referring to the “Socialist Workers Party Action Program” appearing on page 3, which is the election campaign platform of the SWP that has been run in many issues over the past year.
Mr Biden’s decision to stop backing Saudi Arabia’s war against Yemen’s Houthi rebels received much attention. He reversed course from the Trump administration, which largely assisted Riyadh’s campaign, but pledged to help Saudi Arabia defend itself from attack.

He called it a “vital first step in reversing the tide of human misery that has engulfed the country”.
