Bahamians Warned Against Consuming Raw Conch
In an update to a press release circulated by the Bahamas Agricultural Health and Food Safety Authority (BAHFSA) on April 27th, informing the Bahamian public about recent conch poisoning cases in New Providence – on Monday, May 17th, the agency published another release – this time asking Bahamians to not consume or purchase raw conch or conch that they suspect was not properly handled or prepared, until the source of the contamination can be determined.
The communication emphasized that the purchasing or consumption of raw conch at this time is at the consumer’s own risk. It also informed that an active investigation, a collaboration between multiple medical agencies, is now ongoing to determine the cause behind the recent spate of conch poisonings. NASSAU, BAHAMAS The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) announced yesterday that it has acquired seven new ambulances from Demers Ambulance Manufacturer Inc, based in Quebec, Canada, valued at $815,642.84.

The vehicles included three type II Ford T250 van gas V6 ambulances that were deployed for service, and four type III Ford E350 cutaway Gas V8 that are ready for immediate deployment to the National Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) for service on New Providence and Grand Bahama.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) yesterday announced the appointment of Jessica Cartwright as acting hospital administrator of Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC) and Charlene Davis as principal nursing officer (PNO) at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), both with effect from April 6, 2021.

A former educator, Cartwright earned her Master of Health Administration (honors) from Western Connecticut State University and began her career in health administration at the PHA, Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), in July 1999, where she was posted as trainee administrative cadet.
She was appointed assistant hospital administrator in 2001 and accepted the appointment as senior assistant hospital administrator in 2003.
