DVIDS - News - Army Corps of Engineers Announces Reopening Dates of Recreation Sites

2 PITTSBURGH – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is announcing the reopening of select facilities at district-managed sites in anticipation of the 2021 recreation season. “We invite the public to come out and safely enjoy our beautiful reservoirs and parks. Our rangers and resource managers across the district have done a tremendous job preparing campgrounds and recreational sites for this year’s season!” said Col. Andrew Short, commander, Pittsburgh District. All campground reservations can now be made online through the Recreation.gov website. Some recreation sites have already partially or fully reopened, while others will reopen later in the summer season.

Detectives Seeking Information for Shooting Investigation 5/18/2021 ​ Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, May 18, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department s Central Division are requesting any information the public may have concerning a shooting involving several rifles and pistols. Shortly after 2:20 a.m. on May 17, 2021, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Babylon Hookah Lounge located at 520 College Street.  Officers arrived and located an adult male with an apparent, life-threatening gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to the hospital by MEDIC.  Officers determined the suspects had fled the scene in a vehicle, so notice was sent out to units across the city to look for a Nissan NV200.  Officers located more than 55 rifle and pistol shell casings and discovered four vehicles and one structure had been struck by the gunfire.  Crime Scene Sea

Navy volunteers clean Guam Veterans Cemetery for Memorial Day

More than 5,000 veterans, their spouses and children are buried at the cemetery, including Navy Steward Mate 1st Class Ignacio C. Farfan, 21, of Hagåtña. Farfan s remains were identified in 2015 and returned to Guam in 2018, 77 years after he was killed in the attacks in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.  Farfan was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Farfan. Upon his return to Guam, he was buried with full military honors.
