10 JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. – Sgt. David Barrette has been down the Best Warrior road before, but didn’t reach his ultimate destination due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This time, he intends to go all the way.
Barrette joined seven of his fellow Army Reserve Soldiers in the 99th Readiness Division’s FY21 Best Warrior Competition Train-Up Feb. 22-26 at division headquarters here.
“Last year, I was fortunate enough to compete for the 99th in the Best Warrior Competition, which was my first experience competing in this event,” said Barrette, who serves as the training and operations NCO for the 88th Readiness Division’s 220th Public Affairs Detachment. “I made it to the (U.S. Army Reserve) level, but due to COVID circumstances I didn’t end up going to the competition.
NEWPORT Soldiers from 1-172 CAV and 172nd Public Affairs Detachment of the Vermont National Guard, departed Sunday to join over 20,000 other National Guard members in securing a peaceful Inauguration.
Approximately 100 Vermont Army National Guard soldiers will support operations in Washington, DC, ahead of the Presidential Inauguration on Wednesday, January 20.
The announcement came last Thursday that the VTNG would join the security effort.
“We swear an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America,” Major General Greg Knight, adjutant general, Vermont National Guard said. “We are honored to play our part in securing one of the most time-honored traditions in American history, the Presidential Inauguration.”
