NUT threatens to shut down schools over abductions of students

Share THE Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has threatened to shut down schools nationwide over the recurring abduction of students and teachers by bandits. National President of NUT, Dr Nasir Idris while reacting to the recent spate of attacks on schools and abduction of teachers and students, warned that an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee of the NUT would soon be called to take a position on the next line of action. He urged the Federal Government to without delay provide security in all schools across the country, adding that with what is happening, parents would be demoralised to send their children to schools where their safety could not be guaranteed.

Share The headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Saturday said that the Service was still expecting an official reaction from its Kano State Command regarding the arrest of Salihu Yakasai, an aide to Kano State governor, who was allegedly arrested by the operatives of the service. This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday night over the alleged arrest of Salihu Yakasai, a social media aide to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, following his criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari. Salihu Yakasai is the son of the elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai. He was said to have been picked up by the Kano Command of the DSS in a controversial manner and whisked away to its Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja headquarters

Police officers wives renovate classrooms, donate materials to school in Kebbi

Share Wife of Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Omobolanle Adeleke, has on Monday commissioned one block of 10 classrooms at the Police Children School in Birnin-Kebbi, the state capital. Mrs Adeleke who is also the chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association commissioned recreation facilities she erected for the Children at the School premises. The POWAN chairperson while fielding questions from newsmen averred that her passion for a conducive learning environment promoted her to carry out the projects, adding education without play is not completely for children. “We have done this now and will go back home to know what next to be done for the school, just one thing after the other,” she said.
