An Oakland Unified School District spokesman says additional city schools will offer full in-person instruction on Monday, as planned, as the district and its teachers union continue discussing impacts of reopening.
The district reached a tentative reopening agreement last month with the union, the Oakland Education association. It is clear that we need to offer more in-person instruction for those students and families who want and need it while also continuing to offer robust distance learning opportunities, Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell said then. This pandemic has stripped away many of the tools that we use to support our students and community.
The ongoing stalemate in labor negotiations between the Sacramento City Unified School District and the Service Employees International Union could lead to a scenario where students face picket lines on campus when in-person learning resumes next week.The local SEIU chapter, which represents 1,900 members including custodians, bus drivers, instructional aides and food service workers, announced on Thursday that it is planning a two-day strike.The strike dates are April 22 and 23.The union contends it still has concerns about safety and affordable child care for its members. The main thing we want is for the distancing to be universal, for the N-95 mask to be fitted. HF 428 (SF 488) is a Public Defense departmental bill. It allows properties to be leased to use for armory purposes for up to 30 years, rather than the current 20 years. It amends the Iowa Code of Military Justice so that military commanders [Grade Colonel/06] can hold service members accountable if they commit offenses while off duty when there is a nexus between military service and the offense (e.g., sexual harassment, sexual assault involving two service members). It allows the Adjutant General to include in the annual report on certain offenses, the number of sexual abuse cases reported to the U.S. Department of Defense that are not otherwise required to be reported. It also enhances the popular education benefits available that help the Guard recruit and retain members.
