Online platforms and social media play an important role in our daily lives, and with Covid-19, people being indoors have been hooked to their screens for education and entertainment, both. During this period, online gaming has been the biggest beneficiary and this industry has grown phenomenally thanks to lack to regulation. It is glaring that gambling has gained ground in the name of gaming, online!
PUTRAJAYA (Dec 28): The Federal Court here today reserved its decision on the final attempt by a ‘Datuk’ and two policemen for an immediate release from detention under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) 1959 in connection with an illegal online gambling syndicate.
A five-member panel chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat deferred the judgment on the appeal by businessman Zaidi Kanapiah or better known as “Datuk Addy Kana”, Corporal Muhamad Amin Nur Rashid Mohamed Puad and Corporal Mohd Hairy Mohammad, all aged between 34 and 39, after hearing submissions from both parties.
“We will CAV (curia advisari vult) the decision. We adjourn this case,” said Justice Tengku Maimun who presided the appeal with Federal Court Justices Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Datuk Zaleha Yusof, Datuk Seri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim and Datuk Rhodzariah Bujang.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 Police arrested 10 Chinese nationals and a local man believed to be linked to an online gambling syndicate in two raids at a residence in Jalan Conlay, early today.
Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the arrest and confiscation of items linked to their activities were conducted under an online gambling operation (Op Dadu) that began at 2am.

The six men and three women who were arrested were from 20 to 47 years old. Seven were foreigners while the rest were locals.
