MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Gov. Tim Walz and other state officials held a virtual roundtable with several youth activists on Monday to help high school workers across the state who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
Leaders encouraged the young people to apply for an estimated $14 million to $28 million in unemployment insurance funds.

Is it that someone who would drop out of high school rather than stay in high school, let’s say someone who was in my situation was a junior and they couldn’t wait to graduate. Top official says federal unemployment benefit extension could replace just-passed state program

State Employment and Economic Development Commissioner Steve Grove says about the extension of federal unemployment benefits included in the package…
“We believe that a lot of it may replace the state program we passed last week but, until we see the full details, it’s impossible to say for sure.”
But the federal extension is 11 weeks versus Minnesota’s 13 weeks, and Grove says they’re still looking into how that will play out.
