KLCC s Brian Bull reports on the economic officials of Springfield and Eugene announcing ways they ll work to improve loan access and business support for communities of color.
Anne Fifield is Economic Strategies Manager for the City of Eugene. She said the Black Lives Matter movement has highlighted disparities, so her staff is exploring how to balance things out, including loan programs.
“Financing has traditionally excluded the Black community because you need collateral to take out a loan. What community is less likely to own their home, that’s the primary source of financial capital to borrow money to start your business? The Black Community.”
Shreveport Has New Economic Development Director
Shreveport will soon have a new Economic Development Director.
Mayor Adrian Perkins has hired Drew Mouton to serve in that position. He takes over for Brandon Fail who has served in that capacity since Perkins took office.
A news release from the Mayor s office says
Mouton brings decades of experience in finance, product development and managerial operations. “This year we are embarking upon a new chapter for our city, following a historic financial fallout caused by a public health crisis,” said Mayor Adrian Perkins. “We expect Drew will be a catalyst for building a stronger economic outlook, supporting businesses and giving entrepreneurs the tools needed to thrive.
OH Zone Virtual Career Fair set for Thursday

WILMINGTON Register for the Clinton, Fayette, Highland and Adams Counties OH Zone Virtual Career Fair, where virtual conversations lead to real opportunities.
The fair will be held noon-3 p.m. Thursday, May 6.
“The goal of any job fair is to connect job-seekers to an area’s leading employers,” said Jennifer Klus Ekey, Economic Development Director with the Clinton County Port Authority. “This event has the added benefit of flexibility, with individuals able to participate from any location, and the online platform is easy to use for even the least technically-minded person.”

REFERENDUM
The Board of Finance has approved the 2021-2022 Municipal Budget scheduled for
referendum May 5th, 2021. The budget represents a 3.76% decrease in municipal spending and does not defer any capital projects or decrease any departmental budgets.
