CDEDI Petitions Malawi Parliament over Plight of Refugees

The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has petitioned the Malawi Parliament, calling for an urgent review of the country’s laws governing the status of refugees and asylum seekers to ensure some of the fugitives are integrated into the society.
The human rights watchdog argues that some of the refugees and asylum seekers have proven to be critical to the social and economic development of our nation, despite their status.
Ironically, CDEDI has all along been pushing the Government of Malawi to enforce the laws that give guidance as regards the welfare of refugees and asylum seekers in the country.

Registrar Demands CDEDI Registration Details Before Releasing Information on Political Party Financing

Registrar of Political Parties Chikumbutso Namelo has angered Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) for demanding registration details of the organization before he could provide information on source of financing for major political parties in Malawi.
On May 17, 2021, CDEDI wrote the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, requesting for the declaration of information on the source of financing for major political parties.
The organization demanded that this information should be in the form of cash, assets and in kind received as donations within and outside the country.
