The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has challenged President Lazarus Chakwera to clear himself on allegations that he is entrenching nepotism, corruption and bribery in his leadership.
CDEDI executive director Sylvester Namiwa said it is clear from the lamentations of a group of some members of the Tonse Alliance lead partner, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), that something is amiss in the Chakwera administration.
Apparently, the grouping, which has been christened Second Liberation of the Malawi Nation (SLMN), is accusing the President of demonstrating nepotistic tendencies after it was made known that Chakwera is employing his relatives and cronies from the Assemblies of God Church where he belongs and has been a pastor for years before joining politics.

Cdedi executive director Sylvester Namiwa said the vices are manifesting themselves in various ways, including in the recruitment of people in different portfolios in government, and offering of government business through tenders.

A powerful parliamentary committee has told the office of the Auditor General to institute an audit into the K6 billion covid-19 money which the Department of Disaster Management (Dodma) received from government.

This follows widespread reports that the money might have been abused.
The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has since written the office of the Auditor General to institute an audit of the K6.2 billion that was allocated to various Covid19 cluster committees.
The move follows inquiries by some quarters of society who are expressing dissatisfaction with the expenditure reports.

The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (Cdedi) and the Blantyre Small Scale Business Operators led a peaceful demonstration against the Tonse Alliance government in Blantyre on Tuesday with dozens of protestors giving the leadership a demand for an immediate reduction on fuel prices in light of Covid-19 lockdown measures and governance queries.
