Governor Shaktikanta Das said RBI will look into a band bank proposal if it is presented. The move is presented as a way to improve the health of PSU banks in India by addressing their bad loans problem.
Mumbai: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das on Saturday said the central bank would consider the idea of a bad bank if a proposal is made. During the press conference on the sidelines of Nani Palkhivala Memorial lecture, Das added that the government and private sector may have to work on it together.
“If there is a proposal to set up a bad bank, the RBI will look at it. We have regulatory guidelines for asset reconstruction companies (ARCs). We are open to looking at any proposal to set up a bad bank. If any proposal comes, we are open to examining it, he said.

New Delhi, Jan 14 : The Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL) has paid a final dividend of Rs 215.48 crore to the government for financial year 2019-20, being 5 per cent of net worth of the company as at March 31, 2020, in compliance of DIPAM guidelines.
The payout is 41 per cent of the net profit of the miniratna company that functions under the administrative control of the Department of Economic Affairs.
The dividend cheque was presented to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman by SPMCIL Chairman and Managing Director Tripti P. Ghosh, along with Director (Technical) Ajai Kumar Srivastav, in presence of Economic Affairs Secretary Tarun Bajaj, and Senior Economic Advisor (C&C), DEA, Dr. Shashank Saksena.
