Reprieve As Govt Pays Ksh 1.35B To Jua Kali Artisans 21 February 2021 - 11:39 am President Uhuru Kenyatta and Education CS Prof. George Magoha during the launch of Ksh 1.9B school desk project on September 17, 2020 Capital Group The Education Cabinet Secretary, Professor George Magoha, on Saturday, February 20, confirmed that the government has paid Ksh 1.35 billion to Jua Kali artisans for supplying desks to schools nationwide.  Magoha who was speaking at Raphael Wanjala Mundere Girls Secondary School in Budalangi sub-county said that the artisans delivered 625, 000 desks to learning institutions as they had been requested prior to the reopening of school in January.  “The delivery of Ksh 1.9 billion desk programme has performed extremely well,” Magoha said.

Makinde inaugurates 9-man steering committee on COVID-19 action recovery plan

Ibadan, Jan. 28, 2021 Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Thursday inaugurated the state Steering Committee on COVID-19 Action Recovery Plan to mitigate the damage caused by COVID-19 pandemic in the state. The recovery plan is tagged: “Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (State CARES).” Makinde, inaugurating the 9-man steering committee in Ibadan, said the programme was basically meant for post COVID-19 economic recovery. He said the programme would focus on expanding access to livelihood support; food security services and grants for the poor, vulnerable households and firms in the state. The governor said that the CARES was aimed at mitigating the damage caused by COVID-19 pandemic.

Coronavirus: Oyo governor inaugurates committee on economic stimulus programme

TODAY January 28, 2021 Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Thursday, inaugurated the state Steering Committee on COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (State CARES), an initiative targeted at mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the state. The governor, while inaugurating members of the nine-man steering committee at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, said that the programme was meant for post-COVID-19 economic recovery. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted Governor Makinde as explaining that the programme will focus on three major areas, including expanding access to livelihood support, food security services and grants for the poor and vulnerable households and firms in the state.

Treasury allocates Sh200b for roads in 2021-22 spending plan

Among the major roads that are earmarked for construction this year is part of the Isiolo-Mandera Road, which is part of the World Bank-funded Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project. The government also plans to construct 128km of roads under the South Sudan Eastern Africa Regional Trade and Transport Development Facilitation Project. In the course of the 2021-22 financial year, the government also expects to complete the 649km Mau Mau Road and the 84km Kenol-Sagana-Marua Road. “The government has put in place deliberate efforts to scale up a robust network of high-quality roads, railways, sea and airports to enable Kenyans enjoy the benefits of expanded infrastructure assets, interconnectivity and competitiveness, leading to improvement and better ranking in the ease of doing business in the country,” said Treasury in the draft BPS published yesterday.
