Universiti Putra Malaysia joins Times Higher Education ranking at 78th place

PETALING JAYA: Another Malaysian university has joined the top 100 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Ranking 2021. Universiti Putra Malaysia has broken into the top 100, climbing from 106th to 78th place in the latest edition of the ranking featuring a record 606 institutions this year. Additionally, Universiti Teknologi Petronas is 62nd on the list. The top Malaysian institution remains Universiti Malaya at 31st place, though it has dropped nine spots from the 22nd rank it held in 2020. Other Malaysian universities in the rankings are Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (108th), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (112th), Universiti Sains Malaysia (120th), Universiti Utara Malaysia (121st), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (144th), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (165th) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (351-400).

This year the rankings listed a record 606 universities in 48 emerging economies, up 14 percent from last year s 533 universities, including 86 first time entrants. The number of Taiwanese universities in the rankings compiled by the London-based THE increased to 38 this year, up from 36 last year, with 10 listed in the top 100. By Emem Idio, Yenagoa YENAGOA- THE Ijaw Political Frontiers ,IPF, has declared that it will resisits any attempt to run the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, as a one man show, stressing that it would mobilise to ensure a substantive board is inaugurated. According to the group the NDDC which is founded upon the blood, struggle and agitations of patriotic Niger Deltans is not and cannot be a one man show. The Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio had recently stated that there would be no substantive board of the NDDC until the forensic auditors complete their assignment. IPF in his reaction through his spokesperson, Bedford Benjamin, in a statement in Yenagoa, while condemning the statement of the Minister maintained that the forensic audit cannot be forever as every process has an end.
