MOSCOW, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Moscow authorities have scrapped plans to erect a statue on the central Lubyanka Square because a city-wide vote to pick one of two possible candidates from Russian history has proven too divisive, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Friday.
Voters were asked if they wanted to reinstate the original statue of Felix Dzerzhinsky, one of the Soviet Union s most feared secret policemen, or erect one of Alexander Nevsky, a 13th century prince and saint of the Russian Orthodox Church revered for his military victories over foreign invaders.
Although almost 320,000 people participated in the online poll, which began on Thursday morning, the result will not be taken into account and no statue will be erected, Sobyanin said.

MOSCOW/RAMALLAH, West Bank, Jan 11 (Reuters) - The health ministry of the Palestinian Authority (PA) has approved the main Russian vaccine against COVID-19, known as Sputnik V, for use in Palestinian self-ruled territory, Russia s sovereign wealth fund said on Monday.
In the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Palestinian Health Minister Mai Alkaila confirmed that her ministry had granted emergency approval for the Russian vaccine to be administered in areas under limited Palestinian self-rule.
Deliveries are expected to be completed in the first quarter of this year, according to the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which is responsible for marketing the vaccine abroad.

MOSCOW, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Russia s first big international shipment of its coronavirus vaccine 300,000 doses sent to Argentina last week consisted only of the first dose of the two-shot vaccine, which is easier to make than the second dose, sources told Reuters.
Unlike most other COVID-19 vaccines, which are given as two shots of the same product, the Russian Sputnik V vaccine relies on two doses delivered using different inactive viruses, known as vectors. The Gamaleya Institute that developed the vaccine says it is more than 91% effective after the two-dose course.
