PTEa submits plans for Passivhaus council homes in Cambridge

By Joey Gardiner 2021-03-01T07:00:00+00:00 First stage of pilot scheme will see 18 homes built off-site Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects has submitted planning for 18 Passivhaus-standard homes as the first part of a pilot of low-carbon building in the city. The Cambridge Investment Partnership has submitted two separate applications for timber frame council homes for sites on Fen Road and Ditton Fields. It is a joint venture between a Cambridge council and housebuilder Hill. The Cambridge Investment Partnership said the offsite timber frame construction will provide the homes with thick, highly insulated walls allowing gas free heating. The Fen Road site in East Chesterton, currently vacant, will provide 12 of the planned homes, with the remaining six at Ditton Fields. The schemes will include electric car charging points, secure cycle parking provision and tree planting.

The pair has started construction on the fourth residential building at the development. North Island was designed by AHMM The North Island building, which was designed by AHMM, will deliver 136 new homes, including 80 shared ownership and 56 market sale. There is 3,000ft 2 of planned commercial space on the ground floor with flexible use for a cafe, restaurants and shops. The construction of the North Island building is part of Argent Related’s Tottenham Hale regeneration scheme which will create a new neighbourhood including more than 1,000 homes, 15 retail spaces, co-working and office space.

The Seven Kings Hub Design Group consists of residents who were independently selected as representatives. They are helping shape proposals for how it should be run and plans for the interior.
