Nature and Water Play Park funding secured

Date Time Nature and Water Play Park funding secured Horsham Rural City Council has secured $2.1 million from Sport and Recreation Victoria to develop the region’s first Nature and Water Play Park. Located at Horsham’s riverfront precinct, the park will be free and accessible for all ages and capabilities, all year round. The concept is part of the broader City to River Masterplan to activate the riverfront. Mayor Robyn Gulline said attracting significant funding for local projects was a major win for the Wimmera. Sport and Recreation Victoria’s contribution came via its Community Sport Infrastructure Stimulus Program while $350,000 has been allocated from the Commonwealth Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

Date Time Major recreation projects completed in Drouin and Neerim South Baw Baw Shire Council joined Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing MP and members of the community to celebrate the completion of two major recreation projects on Saturday. Significant upgrades to the Drouin Netball Courts and the Neerim South Oval were undertaken over the past year in consultation with local sporting clubs. Drouin Netball Court Upgrade The project focussed on courts three to six at the Drouin Recreation Reserve, home to the Drouin and District Netball Association and Drouin Hawks Netball Club, who run competitions all year round. The project solved safety and compliance issues concerning the court sizes and layout, provided an upgraded drainage system, pedestrian access ramps, player shelters, height adjustable goal posts as well as a suite of peripheral items such as upgrades to boundary fences, retaining walls and footpaths.

After waiting an entire season due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Broadford sporting community finally flicked the switch on four newly installed 30-metre light towers at Harley Hammond Reserve Oval this week. Mitchell Shire Mayor Cr Rhonda Sanderson and Cr Bill Chisholm joined the Broadford Football Netball Club for their season launch on Thursday night (15 April) to see the oval under lights.

Holidays are for fun and learning Picture: Yanni MORE than 20 young Aboriginals were at the YMCA’s Camp Manyung, Mount Eliza last week to “reconnect with culture and country, as well as develop life-long physical skills”. The camp and Sport and Recreation Victoria joined forces with the Hastings-based Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association to provide the activities as well as teaching them about the yidaki (didgeridoo), jewellery crafts and boomerang throwing. The cost of the camp is part of a $300,000 federal government grant for active recreation programs for young Aboriginal people. “As an industry leader in recreation, the YMCA is excited to be partnering with Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association to deliver activities to increase participants’ physical skills in an inclusive environment without barriers like fees, uniforms and training,” Camp Manyung manager Jim Boyle said.
