Deputies: Homeowner sets off own alarm, fires shots at responding deputies

and last updated 2021-01-13 23:47:10-05 POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. A Powhatan man has been arrested after investigators say he fired several shots at deputies outside his home early Wednesday morning. The incident started when the Powhatan County Sheriffâs Office received an alarm call from a residence in the 300 block of Bellson Lane at approximately 1 a.m. When deputies responded to the scene, they noticed the front door was open. They announced their presence and were immediately fired upon from outside the residence multiple times, said a sheriffâs office spokesperson. No one was injured during the incident. Deputies say additional Powhatan Sheriffâs Office deputies responded to the home as well as units from the Chesterfield County Police Department to secure the area.

A judge has revoked the $50,000 bond for a substitute teacher at Benedictine College Preparatory who was recently arrested on child porn charges. Rinku Costa, 32, was was an occasional substitute teacher from October through this month, according to a spokesperson for the Goochland-based school. Multiple Crime Insider sources told Jon Burkett that Costa was posing as a female on Instagram in order to get boys to send him nude photos.

(WWBT) - The Goochland County Sheriff’s Office said a man working at Benedictine Abbey has been arrested on child pornography charges. On Dec. 16, Goochland and the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Benedictine Abbey after a tip was received regarding child pornography. While executing the search warrant, two cell phones and a laptop were recovered. The sheriff’s office said Rinku Costa, 32, of Bangladesh, has been charged with one felony count of possession of child pornography and nine felony counts of second or subsequent offense possession of child pornography.
