Transport Minister Andrew Constance says the message sent following the Upper Hunter by-election is that Labor isn t reading the tea leaves”.
At the weekend the Labor Party recorded a 4.2 per cent swing against it, with leader Jodi McKay conceding the National Party’s win was a “terrible result”.
According to Mr Constance, the “contradiction of messages” from the ALP regarding what it says to the “inner city left” versus “what they’re saying to regional people” contributed to the result of the by-election.
“The message out of this is that Labor aren’t reading the tea leaves, they’re not reading the room right, and I think people are fed up with negative politics the whole time,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
