Much stricter sanctions for breaching 5km travel limit on the cards, warns Ryan

The Government will look at introducing “much stricter sanctions in terms of the 5km route” that would also discourage more people from flying, according to the Green Party leader. He said gardaí had put checkpoints near airports since last Friday in an attempt to cut out non-essential flying. He warned that authorities needed to “significantly increase their surveillance to reduce unnecessary travel. There will be increased checks near the Border, Minister Ryan told Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio One, but said the idea of restricting travel across the border, or creating “an all-island bubble isn’t politically possible as of yet.”

Limerick residents feel abandoned and betrayed as €58m road plan stalls Reporter: );   ); THE Parish Priest of Moyross says people in the area feel “abandoned, cheated and used” by Transport Minister Eamon Ryan over a €58m road-link. Fr Pat Hogan says locals in the northside community feel “a sense of betrayal” after the Green Party leader failed to fully commit to the Northern Distributor Road project. One element of this, linking Coonagh and Knockalisheen, is seen as vital for Moyross and has cross-community support. Local councillors and the Limerick Chamber have also piled the pressure on Mr Ryan, saying the road is crucial in opening up Moyross so it’s no longer a cul-de-sac, and providing employment to the area.
