SINGAPORE: Singapore has received its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines, making it the first country in Asia to take the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech as it plans to inoculate its 5.7 million people by the third quarter of 2021.
The first batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine landed in Singapore on Monday, The Straits Times reported.
Singapore is one of the first few countries to approve and get COVID-19 vaccines.

SINGAPORE: Singapore received its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines on Monday (Dec 21) evening, making it the first country in Asia to take in the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
The shipment was transported on flight SQ7979 via a Singapore Airlines (SIA) 747-400 freighter, which departed on Sunday from Brussels and landed at Singapore Changi Airport at 7.36pm on Monday.
In a doorstop interview with media after Singapore Airlines (SIA) delivered the first shipment of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines to Singapore on Monday (Dec. 21), Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung addressed queries regarding the Covid-19 situation in London.
In response to a media question asking if a travel ban for U.K. was being considered, Ong said that the situation in the U.K. is something the government is looking at.
Ong also said that if there are any decisions to be made, the Ministry of Health will announce it.

London has been gripped by a new, more infectious, strain of Covid-19.

Singapore Airlines transported the vaccines from Belgium, and the shipment was received by Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung at Changi airport.
The airline said it was the first Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine shipment to be delivered to a country in Asia.
