Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Laxman Savadi, on Thursday, hinted at a ticket fare hike for buses run by Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). The minister said the pandemic and fuel price increase had led to huge losses for the corporation, following which BMTC had proposed a hike in the range of 18-20%. The move comes amidst a Bharat Bandh call by transporters and traders over fuel price hike.

‘We will reduce work hours for female conductors’
Road Transport Corporation employees staged a protest on Wednesday with a list of demands including timely payment of salaries, reduction in work hours and restarting operations for the entire fleet of BMTC buses. They also want BMTC to drop its plan to lease electric buses from private operators.
Due to poor fare revenue after COVID-19, Road Transport Corporations (RTCs) have been relying on the State government for the salaries of over 1.3 lakh employees, who are yet to get full salaries for the months of December and January.

Sugarcane combine harvesters have been brought under the tax net following the passage of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2020, in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.
The cost of the sugarcane combine harvesting vehicle is about ₹1 crore and there are about 180 vehicles in the State. So, owners have to pay a fee of about ₹3 lakh for registering each vehicle. Farmers who purchase these will also get a subsidy of ₹33 lakh per unit from the Agriculture Department, Transport Minister Laxman Savadi said.
The Karnataka Epidemic Diseases (Amendment) Bill, 2020, was also passed in the Assembly to impose fine up to ₹50,000 or imprisonment for three months or both for violating the rules and regulations made under the Act.

Karnataka: BMTC, KSRTC, autorickshaws, cabs to operate during night curfew
As the Karnataka government announced night curfew across the state, Transport Minister Laxman Savadi on Thursday said that the buses of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will operate during night curfew. Besides, autorickshaws and cabs will also be allowed to continue their services between 11 pm and 5 am.Â
The announcement comes after Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa released a statement that night curfew will be imposed across the state, between 10 pm and 6 am, starting December 24. The curfew will continue till January 2.Â
Karnataka also issued coronavirus guidelines in the wake of new coronavirus strain found in the UK which states that all passengers (arriving from the United Kingdom by airports, or seaports in Bengaluru and Mangaluru) will have to undergo RT-PCR tests within 72 hours of their arrival.Â
