: Congress recently voted on a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus package the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA, P.L.117-2). It includes stimulus checks for individuals, expanded unemployment benefits, and funding for vaccines, state and local governments, schools and child care. The ARPA marks a huge win for the Biden administration during its first 50 days in office.
Before the ink is dry, the administration has already pivoted to the second phase of the Biden agenda: Build Back Better. While ARPA was largely a relief bill, the next phase will be about rebuilding the economy, starting with a

It will also build upon the individual relief provided in the first bill and seek to make those provisions permanent and will likely be paid for by corporate tax rate increases, a repeal of oil and gas tax breaks and increases in taxes on the wealthy.

The first elevated light-rail structures for the Federal Way Link Extension are now in place.
Workers began installing the girders this week to support the elevated station platform of the future Kent/Des Moines station. Girders supporting the elevated rail line will be installed throughout the alignment in the coming months.
“Our work to bring light rail to Federal Way continues to move forward rapidly,” said Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff. “By 2024, the track structures that South King County residents are watching go up will carry thousands of riders each day on a 62-mile rail network, compared to the 22-mile segment we have today. SEATTLE - The new Northgate light rail station will open to passenger service on Sat., Oct. 2, extending the public transportation system s reach by another 4.3 miles, Sound Transit officials said Friday.
The new extension, which reportedly is moving forward under budget, will take riders from Northgate to downtown Seattle in 14 minutes, with stops at underground stations in Seattle s University District and Roosevelt neighborhoods.
Of the 4.3-mile extension, all but 0.8 miles of elevated track at Northgate are located underground.
Officials said the opening of the Northgate station will kick off a three year period of major light rail extensions, nearly tripling the region’s light rail system from 22 miles to 62 miles by 2024.
