Crackdown on long-stay parking at three car parks among new waiting restrictions introduced

A CRACKDOWN on long-stay parkers is being introduced as East Lothian Council moves to bring in waiting restriction in car parks and on streets. A meeting of the council’s cabinet this week approved plans to limit waiting times at two Tranent car parks and one in Dunbar to just 90 minutes. The minority Labour administration was told that a car park on Abbeylands in Dunbar had been “constructed to assist with visitors accessing and utilising the High Street businesses”; however, it “is being used primarily as a long stay”. They were asked to approve a bid to introduce a 90-minute waiting restriction at the car park, as well as Lindores car park in Tranent, which currently has a temporary restriction under the Safer Spaces project, and a section of car park across from Tranent Medical Practice.

e-scooter trial being set up in Minehead - with practice sessions coming soon

Somerset West and Taunton Council is extending it e-scooter trial to the seaside town. The move to include Minehead in the Department for Transport (DfT) approved trial follows a successful launch in Taunton in October. Nearly 8,000 users have already travelled more than 66,000 miles, removing the equivalent of 9.1 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere. The trial in Minehead is expected to go live in June and will run until the end of March 2022. It will be operated by the council’s appointed partner Zipp Mobility, who will also be employing staff locally. SWT and Zipp will be engaging with local representatives and groups in order to ensure the trial is tailor-made for the area and has a positive impact on the community, building on valuable guidance gained in monthly meetings with disability groups.
