The temporary order, signed by state Transportation Secretary Jim Gray, relieves commercial drivers from maximum driving times and weigh station stops if they are delivering supplies to states experiencing interruptions.
Carriers cannot bypass any safety regulations, however, and must have a copy of the order in the truck cab if they are operating under the looser restrictions.
The order stays in effect through June 10th but could be extended if necessary.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is joining other state transportation agencies and the Federal Highway Administration to promote National Work Zone Awareness Week.
A news release says it’s an effort to prevent crashes, injuries and fatalities in work zones of all kinds – highway construction and maintenance workers, mowing contractors, utility crews, brush cutters and tree trimmers.
According to federal records, one person is killed every 13 hours and one is injured every 13 minutes in a work zone. But four out of five are motorists, not workers.
Kentucky Transportation Secretary Jim Gray says, “It often comes as a surprise to learn that in Kentucky, and in fact nationally, most work zone victims are motorists, not the workers. We want drivers to know they, too, have a vested interest in work zone safety.”

Kentucky Seeking Federal Help As Floodwaters Cause Damage March 4, 2021
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) Kentucky’s governor toured parts of his state hard by heavy rains Tuesday and pledged to seek federal assistance after massive flooding inundated several areas.
Gov. Andy Beshear said “parts of cities are underwater in eastern Kentucky” and Kentucky National Guard members are assisting local and county officials. The governor visited a hard-hit area in Calloway County in western Kentucky on Tuesday.
Aerial photos showed cars and other vehicles nearly under water, and dark waters swirling in streets of some cities.
“These weather events have been brutal on Kentucky,” Beshear said at a news briefing Tuesday afternoon.
