Photo provided by Patti Koenig Shelby Township Police Department promotes K-9 unit Advertisement SHELBY TOWNSHIP A Shelby Township K-9 police officer recently received a promotion for all his efforts over the past few years with the department. Police K-9 Morpheus, who is now 6 years old, was promoted to sergeant Jan. 21 along with his partner for the past five years, Joseph Wojcik. A black German shepherd from the Czech Republic, Morpheus is often seen during the workday searching buildings, looking for narcotics and tracking with Wojcik. Morpheus took a vacant spot at the Police Department after the former K-9, Henry, retired in 2015 after 10 years of service. The department also has another K-9 named Niko.

Legislators Consider Cell Phone Ban While Driving By charguth January 29, 2021 1:23 pm Saga Communications Des Moines, IA (Radio Iowa)– The Iowa Statehouse is once again considering a bill that would make it illegal to use a cell phone while driving. Susan Cameron Daemon is a lobbyist with the Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association which has been supporting a “hands free” law in the state for several years. There is technology in dashboards that make hands-free driving possible, but Matthew McKinney, a lobbyist for Nationwide Insurance is asking legislators to consider also banning other types of electronic devices while behind the wheel.
