The Fred Smith Company was awarded a $1.16 million contract for milling and resurfacing work on a 2.2 mile section of U.S. 1 in Moore County. The work is expected to begin on or before May 1 and is scheduled for completion by mid-November.
Earlier this year, DOT awarded the Raleigh-based Fred Smith Company with a $2.86 million contract to rebuild parts of U.S. 1 and U.S. 15-501 and eight sections of secondary roads in Moore County. Work is slated for completion by June 2022.
In addition, S.T. Wooten Corporation of Wilson was awarded a $1.08 million contract to rebuild a nearly 7 mile section of U.S. 15-501 between Aberdeen the Scotland County line. That work is slated for completion by November 2021.

Downtown Northampton, where walkers and bikers intermingle with cars and buses among restaurants, retail shops and bars, is on its way to a major update.
City planners presented four options to the public Wednesday night for a redesign of a half-mile of Northampton’s social and economic center. Under the title “Picture Main Street,” the project would modify the sidewalks, traffic flow and landscape of the city center.
Route 22 repaving work moving over to Lehigh County

Work to repave portions of Route 22, that led to traffic backups last summer in Northampton County, will start this week in the Lehigh County side of the region, PennDOT announced.
The $16.9 million project in Lehigh County will focus on milling, repairs and paving Route 22 between the I-78 split and 15th Street exit, which runs through in Upper Macungie, South Whitehall and Whitehall townships.
Drivers will see weeknight lane restrictions between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., starting April 6 and running to the end of October.
The project also includes work on the ramps at the Route 309, Cedar Crest Boulevard, and 15th Street interchanges.

Part of the crumbling Meadows Road Bridge collapsed in recent weeks, dashing conservationists hope to keep the stone arch span built in the 1850s.
In the past few weeks Lower Saucon Township officials became aware of the collapse on the closed bridge over Saucon Creek.
As of Monday, a large hole could be seen on one side of the bridge in the center of the four arches, a pile of stones in the creek below.
