Aspiring BOSETU President cries foul

NOT AMUSED: Maruping Aspiring President of Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU), Mpho Maruping, has accused rivals of underhand tactics in the run up to the union’s elections scheduled for place today (April 28th). Maruping who will be contesting against incumbent President, Winston Radikolo of The People’s Team has complained that his team, Restoration of Hope and Dignity for BOSETU membership says has been sidelined during the campaigns. He said that The People’s Team has been using the union’s resources in their campaign. “They booked slots for different interviews with different media houses but our faction was never invited to share our road map. I thought we are not enemies but colleagues with different vision for the union,” he said.

BOSETU is an educators trade union whose main focus is to advocate and advance its members’ welfare before the employer and other stakeholders. The union negotiates and bargains on behalf of its members. Representation during grievances and disciplinary proceedings are just but a few of the main functions of the trade union. It is also the duty of the union to provide social and economic benefits to its members. BOSETU urges govt to delay new tax changes Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) National Treasurer Odirile Aboneng says this year’s Budget Speech will have long-term effects on the general standards of living of Batswana. CHALLENGES THE BUDGET SPEECH: Odirile Aboneng  Speaking at the media briefing on Monday where the Union sought to provide its view on the budget proposal, Aboneng said the introduction of a plethora of levies and tax changes should be delayed until the pandemic has passed. “It is worth noting that these taxes and levies are too high and also have the deleterious effects of dampening the growth of the economy,” said Aboneng ruefully adding that it appears the government has given up in trying to diversify the economy to generate growth and revenue.
