Perhaps it would be unfair on Vice President Slumber Tsogwane to blatantly state that he purposefully misled parliament but part of the information that he relayed to it last week is demonstrably false. Whether or not he is the original source is what complicates this issue.
Tsogwane was tackling an electoral-promise question posed by the Serowe South MP, Leepetswe Lesedi, on an apparent deal that President Mokgweetsi Masisi struck with The Walt Disney Company, the world’s biggest entertainment company which is based in the United States. The company operates entertainment resorts and is renowned for world-class entertainment and excellent customer service standards.

MINISTER: Peggy Serame
A total of 10 951 jobs were created last year against a target of 11 400 that was set.
This was revealed by the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Peggy Serame during a media briefing on Tuesday.
Highlighting her ministry’s achievements in the past year, Serame noted that the ministry was able to attract a total of P773.56 million in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) between April 2020 and December 2020.
This was short of the annual target of P2.3 billion in FDI while Domestic Investment amounted to P1, 816 billion, still short of the annual target of P3.5 billion.
Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Serame said the ministry departments, as well as parastatals, were also not able to achieve their targets having facilitated just 532 start-ups against a target of 1, 015.

Launched in April 2016 with the aim of revolutionising the local dairy industry, five years later and the Lobatse-based milk venture is yet to take off.
Indeed, the June commencement is far from certain, with BDC Head – Corporate Affairs & Strategy, Boitshwarelo Lebang admitting it is dependent on first identifying a suitable partner.

The Corporation recently floated an Expression of Interest (EOI) inviting interested parties to invest in the project in exchange for an equity stake.
