Ras Al Khaimah: Agents at the Narcotics Control Department of Ras Al Khaimah Police succeeded in seizing 1,125kg of raw narcotic substances with an estimated market value of Dh25 million, Colonel Ibrahim Jassim Al Tunaiji, Director of the Narcotics Control Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said.
This massive narcotic haul was made possible even under the exceptional circumstances arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Col Al Tunaiji said that the agents at Narcotics Control Department were able to overcome the challenging circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, to carry out their professional duties with efficiency and with strategic support from the police authorities in the other emirates.

Chawla orders serious efforts to meet tax recovery targets

Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Department & Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla has directed the officers concerned to make serious efforts for the recovery of all taxes.
This he said while presiding over a meeting at his office on Tuesday. Secretary Excise Taxation & Narcotics Control Department Ajaz Memon, directors general and other directors also attended the meeting.
The minister warned that in case of failure to achieve the tax targets, departmental action would be taken against slacking officials.
He asked the director general to strictly monitor the recovery of arrears of all taxes and submit a report in this regard. In the meeting, the performance of all regions was also reviewed in detail. The status of Prime Minister Delivery Performance Unit complaints on dashboard was also discussed.

Police have arrested an official of Narcotics Control Department and two of his associates on charge of looting gold by pretending to be members of detective branch of police.
The arrestees are, SM Shakib Hossain, assistant director at Munshiganj district office of the Narcotics Control Department, and his associates constable Aminul Islam and source Harun.
Biplob Vijay Talukder, deputy commissioner (Lalbagh Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the news of their arrest to The Daily Star.
On January 7, Shakib, Aminul and Harun went to a gold shop in Zindabahar Lane in Dhaka. In the name of DB, they took the owner of the shop and stole 90 bhoris of gold, Prothom Alo reports quoting court sources.
Evidence Preservation at Police Stations: It’s a mess in Maalkhanas
At first glance, it looked like piles of trash jumbled together.
Documents, firearms, bullets, mouldy clothes and shoes, human bones and drugs were strewn across the storeroom, widely known as a maalkhana, at Kushtia Model Police Station.
All these are important pieces of evidence collected in various cases filed with the police station. Insects were buzzing inside the room, which remains closed most of the time and smelled. We do not have proper facilities to preserve the evidence and there are chances of those getting damaged, said Kamruzzaman Talukdar, officer-in-charge of the police station, adding that he contacted the higher authorities for special arrangements to preserve the evidence.
