SFCC Announces 2021 Distinguished Alumni, Graduation Details State Fair Community College is pleased to recognize nursing professional Lana Kay Kelly as the 2021 Distinguished Alumni. She will be the keynote speaker for SFCC’s Health Sciences pinning and commencement at 1 p.m. May 14 in the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Missouri State Fair Grounds. Lenny Freund who was selected as the 2020 Distinguished Alumni will be the speaker for the general commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. May 14 in the Exhibition Center. Freund was not able to speak at last year’s ceremony because it was canceled out of concern for the health and safety of all participants during the pandemic. Attendance at both ceremonies is limited to students and guests who have tickets. Masks and social distancing are required.

PCHS Public Health Advisory Updates The following is a press release from the Pettis County Health Center.  Upon expiration of the Face Covering Rule at 12:01 am, May 12, 2021, the following Public Health Advisory shall go into effect. All residents and visitors to Pettis County are strongly encouraged to follow the practices listed below in order to continue to slow the spread of the virus causing COVID-19. 1. Wear a face covering in accordance with the guidelines from the Center for Disease Control. Face coverings should continue to be worn indoors. Face coverings no longer need to be worn in small groups when everyone present is fully vaccinated or in most outdoor activities except for very large gatherings such as concerts or professional sporting events.

PETTIS COUNTY AUTHORITIES DIFFUSE SITUATION WITH SUICIDAL INDIVIDUAL

Over the weekend, the Sedalia Police Department received a report of a suicidal subject who was armed with a gun. According to the Pettis County Sheriff’s Department, further Investigation allowed law-enforcement officers to locate the individual near Houstonia parked in a field. Officer Barrett with SPD maintained phone contact with the individual as Sgt. Dehaven, Deputies Morley and Chancellor, and Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Grose responded to the field. The individual fired two shots while speaking with Officer Barrett, but because of his persistence and empathy, the individual agreed to relinquish himself into the custody of deputies. The individual was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center for further treatment.

Friday COVID-19 Coverage: Catholic Charities to host vaccination event in Sedalia for Hispanic community

4:40 p.m.: Catholic Charities to host vaccination event in Sedalia for Hispanic community Catholic Charities, in partnership with Bothwell Regional Health Center and St Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish, will hold a vaccination event on Saturday, May 15 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart School in Sedalia. The event is aimed at helping members of Pettis County s Hispanic community, but all are welcome.  To register, people may call Ilsi Palacios, Catholic Charities Hispanic Resource Coordinator, at (573) 658-0284 or ipalacios@cccnmo.org. Sacred Heart School is located at 416 West 3rd Street, Sedalia, MO, 65301, and the even will be held in the small gym.
