Health Center, hospital strained by high Pettis County COVID-19 numbers

Bothwell Regional Health Center has reached bed capacity at several points in the last month. SEDALIA – The increase of positive COVID-19 cases in Pettis County over the last month has caused problems for the Pettis County Health Center and Bothwell Regional Health Center. Wednesday’s COVID-19 numbers showed 644 active cases in Pettis County, with 24 hospitalizations. There were also five COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday, totaling 47 deaths. By comparison, Boone County, which has over four times the population size, had 887 active cases and 34 hospitalizations. The numbers for Pettis County are actually down from where they were previously. Active cases totaled 903 on Dec. 8.

In the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force Briefing, Pettis County Health Center takes a cautiously optimistic tone that the vaccine is an important step toward ending the pandemic and the changes that the pandemic has caused for our community. Phase 1-B: Emergency response and essential workers. Phase 2: Additional Phase-1 populations if not vaccinated in Phase 1, high risk populations and potentially all Missouri residents (as availability increases).

BRHC Clinic & Center Holiday Hours Noted

All Bothwell Regional Health Center clinics and centers will be closed Dec. 25 for Christmas Day and have varying hours of operation from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day. Hours are subject to change due to staffing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Check with locations before visiting. The winter COVID-19 drive-through testing location, at Gate 6A on the Missouri State Fairgrounds, is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 24, closed Dec. 25, open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 26, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 28-31, open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 1, and open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 2. People should pre-register by calling (660) 827-7900.
