Francis MacLachlan, the designer and builder of the sail training brigantine St. Lawrence II and other sailing vessels, died on Sunday at the age of 95.
Since completing St. Lawrence II in 1953, thousands of young people have spent summers on Lake Ontario around Kingston and beyond on the square-rigged ship learning the science of sailing.

KINGSTON It appears that the Prison for Women site on Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard may have a new use in the future.
Drivers and pedestrians passing by the Union Street side of the former federal women’s prison may have been surprised this week to see a sign advertising a new seniors community on the site.
