PORTSMOUTH Local authorities responded to a ransom note and a non-credible security threat at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease Monday, according to a Pease spokesperson.
At 9:50 a.m., a threatening note was faxed through to the airport, according to Chase Congreves, manager of airport administration.
Upon security stakeholders advice, the airport terminal was cleared as local and state authorities responded within minutes to the threat that was soon deemed non-credible.
Pease Development Authority Executive Director Paul Brean said approximately 100 people were in the passenger terminal at the time of the evacuation for a security sweep. We very carefully asked them to evacuate the area and allow the security team to do their job and then we rescreened the passengers and allowed them to continue (their travels), he said.
PORTSMOUTH The Air Guard at Pease ferried troops and gear from New Hampshire and other states to the nation’s capital as part of the effort to buttress security for Wednesday’s inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
According to a Facebook post Saturday from the 157th Air Refueling Wing, which is based at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease, KC-46A tankers were used to carry members of the National Guard and their equipment from New Hampshire and at least two other states.
Troops were flown into Joint Base Andrews in Maryland for deployment in Washington, D.C., to help secure the Capitol building and surrounding area for the inauguration and prevent a repeat of the violence there Jan. 6 when Congress met to certify Biden’s win over Donald Trump.
