PORTSMOUTH, Va. Police said Donald Parker, 44, has been charged after two people, including a firefighter, were shot in Portsmouth on Monday night.
The Portsmouth Fire Department said crews were on Surry Street after they received a report of downed wires. When units arrived, someone opened fire.
One firefighter was shot, along with a second person who was not a firefighter. Officials said the firefighter was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Justin Arnold, Deputy Fire Chief - Operations, said in an email the department expected the firefighter to be released from the hospital as early as Tuesday morning.

5:08 a.m.: Police responded to a report of a motionless man under the Interstate 95 overpass. Upon response, police made contact with a man who appeared to be asleep. The male subject later said he was going to see a friend on Gosling Road and was all set.
9:10 a.m.: Police notified the Department of Public Works after a Greenland Road caller said that furniture had been left on her property. Police later said the furniture was left curbside for a yard sale at Robert J. Lister Academy but were uncertain how it got on the caller s property.
10 a.m.: Written warning issued to a Middle Road and South Street driver.
