The last time Zimbabwe’s cabinet met was on 8 December 2020. This well before President Emmerson Mnangagwa went on his annual leave from 1 January 2021 to 1 February 2021.
Mnangagwa’s co-deputies, Mohadi and Constantino Chiwenga, alternated as acting president in-between. Mohadi held the fort from 1 January to 14 January, while Chiwenga came in from 15 January to 1 February, although he was hardly visible as he was said to have been “exhausted”.
Chiwenga’s health is frail after he fell seriously ill and was flown as an emergency to China for medical treatment in 2019.
However, there was confusion within the executive yesterday after Mnangagwa addressed as someone back at work, while Chiwenga issued a statement, saying he was still the acting president.

ZIMBABWE upholds principles of peace and stability as enshrined in the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) charters with the country’s defence policy anchored on legal principles contained in domestic and international laws.
This was said by the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri when she addressed students attending the Joint Command and Staff Course Number 34 at the Zimbabwe Staff College at the Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks.
Minister Muchinguri said that the country’s defence policy was non-aggressive in nature, but was aimed at defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while promoting the maintenance of international peace and stability.

THE protracted dispute between RioZim and the military, as well as a company owned by Pakistani nationals Falcon Resources over chrome mining claims in Darwendale, Mashonaland West province is a blow to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s drive to lure investment into the country and stem the rapid fall in foreign direct investment.

RioZim won its protracted dispute with the military and Falcon Resources in a recent ruling by the Supreme Court.
The dispute started sometime in August 2018 when Defence and War Veterans Affairs minister Oppah Muchinguri declared RioZim’s mining claims a cantonment area and offered them to Falcon Resource, which was a violation of the law.
