Portland council accepts climate emergency progress report
UPDATE: City Council members agree they must do more to address critical climate change issues.
The City Council unanimously accepted a report on progress made toward meeting Portland s climate emergency goals on Thursday, July 29.
The vote came as the city was headed into the second extreme heat wave of the year, with temperatures expected to hit 100 or more degrees on Friday.
Mayor Ted Wheeler said the council and others did not foresee the record-breaking temperatures of the late June heat wave suspected of killing 116 people in Oregon, most in Multnomah County.
All council members agree they and the community must do more to slow climate change and mitigate its effects in Portland.
