A Portland nonprofit is seeing a lot of new developments this year after moving into a bigger place more central to the African immigrant community they serve.
African Youth and Community Organization (AYCO) recently moved to a new location on Northeast 74th Avenue and Glisan Street the former site of the Trinity Broadcasting Network thanks to a partnership with land owner Metro, the elected regional government. This new center is the Dream Center for AYCO, said Jamal Dar, the organization s executive director.

Shovels thrust into wintry soil was the first step for a budding new affordable housing community in North Portland.
When completed in July 2022, Cathedral Village Apartments will offer overhead views of the soaring St. Johns Bridge, the rumble and hum of freight trains round back, and 110 units for Portlanders to call home.
Development partners Catholic Charities of Oregon and Related Northwest officially broke ground on the $37.7 million project at 6520 N. Salem Ave. on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
Homeless solution debate heats up
Regional push for housing prompts more options, but some are questioning proposed new city policy.
The Portland City Council is expected to vote in February to clear the way for more homeless shelters, sanctioned outdoor campsites and alternative group living arrangements to be established in almost every part of Portland.
The appointed citizen Planning and Sustainability Commission already has held a briefing, two public hearings and a work session on the Shelter to Housing Continuum Project. It is intended to rewrite existing city regulations to allow such housing to be built more quickly, including where it is currently prohibited, such as in commercial zones.

The Portland City Council greenlit funding Wednesday for an affordable housing project that will bring more than 100 new apartments with low and very low rent to the St. Johns neighborhood.
The unanimously approved measure will provide about $17.4 million in Portland housing bond revenue for Cathedral Village, whose construction in the 8600 block of North Crawford Street will begin this year.
With sweeping views of the nearby St. Johns Bridge, the four-story, 110-unit building will offer low-income Portlanders a place to live within walking distance of grocery stores, public transit and Cathedral Park, city officials said.
