The man accused of murdering his parents will undergo a competency examination.
A Tuesday, March 2 preliminary examination was held in the Kalamazoo County 8th District Court in the case involving a Portage Michigan couple allegedly murdered by their son Nicholas Alexander Johnson.

Judge Anne Blatchford heard from Nicholas s attorney who requested his client undergo a competency evaluation. The Office of the Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney had no objections to the request, according to a release from the Prosecutor s Office.

Son Of Murdered Portage Couple Charged With Their Homicide
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor has authorized charges for the son and lone suspect in a Portage couple s disappearance in subsequent deaths.
The Office of the Kalamazoo County announced the authorization of charges against 27-year-old Nicholas Alexander Johnson for the homicide of his parents Gary and Laura Johnson.
Nicholas Johnson will be charged with two counts of open murder, two counts of possessing a firearm while committing a felony, and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) UPDATE: Monday, the Portage Department of Public Safety announced that two recently-found bodies have been identified as a couple who went missing in Portage last week.
Previously, Gary and Laura Johnson had been announced as missing after not reporting to work for a few days. A search of their property showed signs of violence inside, and Laura Johnson’s vehicle was missing.
