Port Authority commemorates 100 years with tiny time capsule, soaring infrastructure
Updated Apr 30, 2021;
The most commonplace items of commuting an E-ZPass, a Metrocard and a token will be among the artifacts eventually unearthed from a thermos-sized time capsule, placed in a stone monument Friday morning to commemorate the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s centennial.
A section of original George Washington Bridge cables, recently replaced, and other smaller artifacts were included to represent the bi-state authority that built airports, four bridges, two tunnels, created the nation’s first container terminals, constructed two twin towers and their replacements after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Why should we care about this?” Allow me to explain why I think this is important.

The shoutout arrived in the form of Bridgegate not that anyone got the answer right.
Guest host Anderson Cooper read the clue from the $400 square of the “In-car-cerated” category, which was sandwiched between “‘Land’ fill” and “Modern Hebrew”:
“Nickname for the 2013 scandal in which access lanes from N.J. to the GW were deliberately closed, causing monster gridlock.”
They also didn’t know Canal Street was in New York. ♀️ #Jeopardypic.twitter.com/l5GdEJPcIZ Amy Kuperinsky (@AmyKup) April 29, 2021
Was it the “GW” that threw them off? (Cooper read this as “GW,” not “GWB” or George Washington Bridge.)
