Valenciaport exceeds 5.4 million containers and 80 million tonnes managed in 2020
Valenciaport managed a total of 5,428,307 containers and 80,882,224 tonnes of goods in 2020, which in practice means equalling the traffic of the previous year – an all time record – and overcoming with flying colours the slump caused by the pandemic during the first half of the year. Thus, the gap between 2020 and 2019 was only 0.23% in tonnes and 0.21% in containers (11,520 TEUs; which is to say, less than one ship).
These are indicators that show the significant recovery that has taken place in the second half of the year thanks to the strength of the Valencian and Spanish export sector, which has focused the bulk of its import-export operations in the Port of Valencia. Valenciaport leads Spain in natural gas supply operations
Valenciaport is at the forefront in Spain in the supply of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) by the shipping company Baleària. Specifically, in 2020, the Dénia-based company carried out a total of 291 natural gas supply operations, reaching 26,777 m3, in the Port of Valencia, which represents 40% of the bunkering operations carried out by the company in Spain, the company said in its release.
The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) and Baleària have been collaborating for years in the introduction of LNG and the improvement of supply services to ships with this fuel with the implementation of the Multi Truck to Ship System (MTTS). Thus, 95% of all Baleària’s supplies were carried out using this method, where several tankers simultaneously supply liquefied natural gas to the ship, making bunkering faster and more efficient. Valenciaport joins the club of the 12 largest ports in the world that lead the decarbonization and reduction of emissions
Valenciaport is making its debut in 2021 by joining the club of the 12 ports of the world that have the most investments committed to decarbonisation and emission reduction projects, the World Ports Climate Action Program (WPCAP), a working group that jointly promotes actions against climate change and that collaborates closely with the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH), the company said in its release.
The WPCAP was created with the main objective of reducing CO2 emissions and improving air quality.

Spanish Valenciaport is making its debut in 2021 by joining the club of twelve international ports committed to decarbonisation and emission reduction projects.
The Port of Valencia (PAV) is now a member of the World Ports Climate Action Program (WPCAP), a working group that jointly promotes actions against climate change and that collaborates closely with the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH).
