Port of Corpus Christi abruptly ends Lone star Ports lease of Harbor Island

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â It wasnât expected and it took some by surprise. Tuesday, commissioners with the Port of Corpus Christi voted to end the lease of Lone Star Ports.
The group was to build a major loading facility out on Harbor Island in the Port Aransas area. That terminal would have been used to load very large crude carriers, or VLCC s, with crude oil.
Some are taking this as a win, but are left with more questions. Was it a breach of contract? asked James King, who is the president of Port Aransas Conservancy. Is it over, as far as Harbor Island? Are they looking at other avenues for an export facility? So, lots of questions . Lots of backroom communication that the public doesnât hear that the public needs to hear.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Things got salty at the Corpus Christi City Council meeting Tuesday night when the topic of proposed desalination plants came up.
Port of Corpus Christi leaders were scheduled to give the council a long-awaited briefing on the status of those plants that would remove salt from seawater for use at homes, businesses, and industries.
Council members were quick to criticize the port for poor communication.
âWe want to see (the port s) cooperation with the City of Corpus Christi as we go forward through the permitting process for desal plants (and) the construction of desal plants, council member at-large Mike Pusley said. I think it s vitally important to this community.â
